CANopen Safety Safety Encoders

TR Electronic has a long history in absolute position detection. The proven SIL encoders of the CD_582+FS series are now available with the CANopen safety
interface. To date, TR has launched PROFINET/Profilesafe based on Ethernet, Ethernet/IP with CIP Safety™, FSoE (Failsafe via EtherCAT) and Powerlink open SAFETY.


Unlike these interfaces, CANopen Safety works according to the "white channel principle", i.e. the entire signal path must prove its reliability in the safety assessment
of the entire application. This is achieved by repeated transmission and the use of the underlying CSMA/CA (anti-collision) protocol, which forms the basis of all CAN implementations.


The interface connections of the safety encoders have proven their reliability through extensive testing, and the scanning technology has also been tested countless times,
like all CD_582+FS. This modular system is based on the latest technology and enables the encoders in the standard portfolio to be perfectly adapted to the application.
The mechanical connection can be realized via solid shaft, blind shaft, hollow shaft. Depending on the requirements of the safety-related measuring system, the positive
locking of the drive shaft is fixed by a keyway connection or by a torque bracket made of spring steel for hollow and blind shafts.


The CD_582+FS compact safety encoder with CANopen Safety allows the preset of position values without the shaft being stationary. This "dynamic preset" works like
 an electronic referencing - upon request, the output value is adjusted to the previously stored preset value. Error detection, such as device failure, is usually indicated in
CANopen Safety by the controller reacting to the lack of a communication protocol. The CD_582+FS also have an active fail-safe state, i.e. they can actively report the
 occurrence of errors to the controller. The controller can react faster (without waiting for monitoring times): For example, the control unit can move to the parking
position using the position value determined on one channel if the measuring channels are still available.

CANopen Safety Safety Encoders

The choice of scanning technology for the safety encoder gives the user a high degree of freedom, whether full magnetic scanning or optical position detection,
 fast and high-resolution scanning. The safety encoders can be used for applications up to SIL2/PLd or SIL3/PLe. Devices with the optical scanning option have a
special feature: In addition to the safety bus system, the position value is also output via the SSI or incremental interface (not safety-related). This additional interface
can be used, for example, to provide a secondary control loop without having to go through the control system. At the same time, the encoder provides direct
 measured values via the "grey" channel in the standard protocol without the need for additional protection.


The CD_582+FS SIL safety encoder and especially the new CANopen Safety from TR Electronic make the decision for a safety-related encoder very easy: same installation space, considerably higher safety
